Tucson Wildlife Center thanks everyone! Wednesday, we asked for donations to help us purchase Blood Testing Machines. Our goal was reached in one day. We are humbled. The machines are ordered. Thank you so much for helping us help the injured, orphaned, and sick wildlife of Tucson and Southern Arizona. And thank you for caring.

Patient of the Week: 07/26/24
Striped Skunk Kit
This cute little “stinker” came to Tucson Wildlife Center three weeks ago, orphaned and covered in ants. Our wildlife care team estimated his age to be around 2 weeks old based on his weight of 98.5 grams and the fact his eyes were still closed. Today, at 5 weeks old, his eyes are open, and he weighs 185 grams. He is becoming more active and curious about his surroundings, and he is beginning to eat a small amount of solid food (mealworms) in addition to a formula that mimics his mother’s milk.
In the video you see the kit snuggled up against a stuffed skunk while he is being fed. This comforting plush includes a battery-operated device that emits a rhythmic heartbeat, similar to the natural sound and rhythm of his mother’s heartbeat. It is also placed in the baby’s enclosure to provide comfort and a sense of security. Reducing stress and anxiety is important for the well-being and proper development of young animals. The stuffed toy also serves as a form of enrichment, providing the baby skunk with something to cuddle and interact with … beneficial for his emotional and psychological health.
Once the kit is weaned off formula, eating solid foods, and is physically able to survive on his own, he will be moved to an outdoor enclosure to acclimate to the weather and prepare for release back into the wild. This period in an outdoor enclosure will help him adapt to natural conditions and build essential survival skills such as foraging for food If you would like to help patients like this young skunk, click the button to donate,
