Wildlife Rehabilitator

The Wildlife Rehabilitator will collaborate with the medical team and Rehabilitation Team to care for approximately 5000 animals/year. This role involves overseeing and assisting managers, and staff across the wildlife areas of rescue, admission and release.

Requirements:

  • Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator (CWR) from the IRC and
    NWRA, or a minimum of one year of full-time employment at a busy rehabilitation center with experience rehabilitating a wide variety of species.
  • Vet Tech or advanced NWRA training in medical treatments and a basic IWRC certificate.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to get a State and Federal wildlife Rehabilitator
    License within four months of employment.
  • Chemical Capture certification is a plus.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or have a GED.
  • Willingness to become rabies vaccinated if not already.
  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Wildlife Veterinarian

The Wildlife Veterinarian is responsible for providing medical care, treatment, surgery, and rehabilitation services for injured and orphaned wildlife while supporting rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts. This role requires a licensed DVM with wildlife medicine experience, strong communication and record-keeping skills, and the ability to mentor staff and volunteers. This role requires working safely in a fast-paced environment, managing cases year-round, including occasional on-call hours, and performing duties in both indoor and outdoor settings under varying weather conditions.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) maintains an active license in the state of Arizona in good standing or can apply for an Arizona license, and DEA registration.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a practicing wildlife DVM is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of the wildlife care arena. Competency in assessing, diagnosing, treatment, surgery and prescribing medications. Developing and directing treatment and nutritional protocols for patients. Competency in mentoring volunteers and staff, with the ability to place an emphasis on rescue, rehabilitation and release. Putting human safety first is required.
  • Must understand and be able to work in the unique and challenging animal care environments year-round, day or night. Must understand and practice safety procedures at all times.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, exhibiting professional courtesy and polite behavior, toward directors, staff, volunteers and the public at all times.
  • Electronic and hard copy medical data and records management required. Veterinary, medical and animal care policy and procedure development skills helpful.
  • Must be drug and alcohol free.
  • Efficient time management required.
  • Some off-hours, on-call time may be required. TWC is open 365 days a year.
