Gila Lizard Release

PATIENT OF THE WEEK 03/14/25

At the end of January, we reached out for help in purchasing supplies to support the care of our reptile patients—and thanks to your generosity, we received the essential items we needed! Your support makes a direct impact on the animals we care for, and we are incredibly grateful.

We are also thrilled to share that the Gila Monster who arrived at Tucson Wildlife Center emaciated, dehydrated, and with a significant skull wound has fully recovered! After five months of care, he reached a healthy weight and was released back into the wild in a resource-rich area with dense vegetation to provide shelter and protection from predators.

Because this reptile’s rehabilitation coincided with brumation season, he missed the opportunity to burrow and enter his natural winter dormancy in the wild. Waiting closer to spring to release him, helped ensure he has the best chance of survival.
