Reptile Room
This winter, Tucson Wildlife Center has experienced the intake of several reptile patients, prompting us to update and enhance our reptile care room. These improvements are designed to meet the specific needs of species like Gopher Snakes and Gila Monsters, ensuring they receive the best possible care during their rehabilitation.
One of our current patients, a Gila Monster, will be spending the winter with us after being brought to TWC emaciated, dehydrated, and with a significant wound on his skull. Due to his injuries and the timing of his rehabilitation, he missed the opportunity to burrow and enter brumation (hibernation-like state) in the wild. Once spring arrives, and he is fully recovered, he will be returned to his natural habitat.
From maintaining precise temperatures and humidity levels to providing naturalistic enclosures, TWC’s wildlife care team is committed to giving these reptiles the conditions they need to recover and prepare for release back into the wild. To support their care, we have added essential reptile care items—such as digital thermometers, humidifiers, sphagnum moss, hide boxes and an XL terrarium—to our Amazon “wish list.” If you would like to help, shop the wish list below:
We appreciate it, as will all the wild animals in our care!
