Red-Tailed Hawk
Thanks to the animal care team at Tucson Wildlife Center, this Red-tailed Hawk is now healthy and flying high. After being hit by a car, she arrived at TWC with chest and mouth injuries. Once she had recovered, the hawk was moved to a large flight enclosure to regain her strength.
Upon release by one of TWC’s Animal Care Specialists, the hawk exited the capture box in a flash then flew up and onto an arm of a saguaro where she sat for several minutes before alighting on the very top. After scanning the surrounding area from this high perch, she soared off into the wild.
Fun facts: The most common large hawk in North America, the Red-tailed Hawk has an average life span of 20 years in the wild and may mate for life, rarely picking another mate unless one of the birds dies.
